A gorgeous antique heirloom handstitched patchwork quilt found here in Suffolk. A very well constructed quilt that does lie flat, the maker has used small diamond shapes in a tumbling blocks design. The majority of the silk diamond shapes measure only 2 5/8" x 1 1/2", made from many coloured printed, woven and plain Victorian dress silks - all contrasted with black. The quilt has eight pointed stars in the centre. All framed by a dark brown velvet border, a crisp period floral chintz on the reverse. The quilt is graphic in design with visual impact, very pleasing to look at.
The quilt is shown on a 4' 6" double bed, apart from a couple of small stains on the reverse and small age spotting on some of the silk patches, there are no more imperfections than one would expect from a textile of this period. This is a fabulous period heirloom quilt, no fade, repairs, rips or tears. Overall in excellent condition to use for a bedcover or hanging.
