A very decorative antique paisley shawl woven on a jacquard loom dating from late 1860s.
Found in East Anglia so likely manufactured in Norwich, Similar in colour, size & design to examples by Towler, Rowling & Allen, it could be a Scottish copy (same period).
The shawl has a large bordered design showing large paisley & floral sprays, one side of the central part is vivid blue, the other vibrant red, wonderful colour combination : red, blue, pink, claret, green and cream.
No fade, holes, repairs or stains, there are a few loose threads &, a small nibble on the extreme edge -the narrow green selvedge, minor, not significant but worth a mention. One of the image showing the whole shawl has light spots, not a fault. Generally this lovely 19c wool & silk shawl is in excellent condition - collectable, usable, wearable, hangable.
Measures 128" x 62" plus 3" silk warp fringe - two short sides.
