Pretty pair of handworked antique Chinese sleevebands showing phoenix, dragons and intricate patterns within banners or shields. All beautifully worked in blue and black coloured silks with equal amounts of untarnished gold metallic threads on a cream mid weight silk satin ground c1880.
This lovely embroidery is entirely hand done, long and narrow, likely sleevebands. Detailed work with a ceremonial look about it. There are chinese characters written on the inside of one band on the reverse ? signature. One light small stain and a few little marks down one side of one panel on the cream silk ground. Maybe this is where they were attached to a mount, may be removeable though would not be seen if framed. Nothing too obvious. I mention for accuracy. No missing stitches, rot or holes - overall in excellent condition.
Each panel measures : 6 3/8" x 34", actual embroidery - 3 3/4" wide x 20.3/8" L.
