An exceptional top quality embroidered silk on silk Chinese piano shawl, all over exotic floral, tendrils & bird of paradise design in many vibrant colours/shades on black, long elaborately hand knotted silk fringe c 1920.
The ground silk is a true dense black, the long fringe is a little tangled but otherwise I cannot find anything amiss with this wonderful period shawl. The embroidery is as good on the back as the front, clever shading.
Huge & very heavy,measures: 67" x 67" plus 8" knotting +18" = 26" long fringe all around. Please note detailed embroidery - this is a stunning example of the embroiderer's art. Overall in excellent wearable condition - no holes, rot, fade, missing fringe, colour run or stains.
