A very fine early 19th century soft silk & wool woven shawl Norwich shawl showing an allover design floral & fronds design & complementary border. Last picture shows the reverse, click on any image to enlarge. Very good colours - dark red, greeny blue, pinky beige, dark green, flesh & mustard on a cream ground. I have been unable to find a shawl exactly like this so it is possible the design is undocumented which makes this shawl very desireable.
Condition : The odd tiny brown speck and pinhole but generally this beautiful collectable period shawl has been well taken care of, quite remarkable for it's age, no significant fade, stains, missing fringe, repairs or holes. Measures : 68" x 67 1/2" excluding 2 1/2" deep sewn on cream silk fringe all around, border is 4 5/8" wide all around.
